The increasing threat to cyber security is becoming more apparent in the face of dangerous attacks on Vietnam’s critical network systems. Let’s investigate why the network system has become vulnerable to such attacks.

Cyber Security

Enhancing Cyber security: The Present Challenge

The Cybersecurity Department, High-Tech Crime Prevention of the Ministry of Public Security, and the National Cybersecurity Association of Vietnam have warned about escalating attacks on vital organizations and agencies in Vietnam.

Escalating Danger:

  • Both domestic and international hacker groups are intensifying assaults on critical sectors such as electricity, banking, securities, payment intermediaries, telecommunications, petroleum, and healthcare.
  • The widespread adoption of technology in operations and business has created many opportunities but also exposed vulnerabilities to hacker groups.

Nature and Scale of Attacks:

  • The sophistication of assaults is on the rise, as they increasingly target the data and operations of pivotal organizations.
  • Key sectors like electricity, banking, securities, and healthcare are particularly vulnerable to these assaults orchestrated by hacker groups. This heightened level of targeting underscores the need for robust cybersecurity measures and proactive defense strategies within these industries to mitigate the risks posed by such attacks.

Consequences and Warnings:

  • The disruption of operations and the compromise of sensitive data can have far-reaching consequences for organizations and businesses, impacting their reputation, financial stability, and customer trust.
  • Therefore, organizations and businesses must implement enhanced protection measures and respond promptly and effectively to these threats. By doing so, they can mitigate the potential damage and safeguard their assets, reputation, and long-term viability.

Immediate Action Required:

  • Enhanced vigilance and bolstered cybersecurity measures are imperative to thwart and effectively counter attacks perpetrated by hacker groups.
  • This assertion underscores the pressing need to fortify proactive monitoring and robust defense mechanisms to safeguard against the ever-evolving tactics employed by malicious actors in cyberspace.

A05 Department and Risk Landscape: Illustrating the Rising Threat

The A05 Department is responsible for assessing and preventing cyber threats. In the context of increasing risks, the picture of the level of danger posed by attacks is becoming clearer.

Characteristics and Features of Risks:

  • A05 keeps watch over the methodologies and objectives of incursions, whether originating domestically or internationally.
  • This depiction delineates the intricate and multifaceted character of incursions aimed at critical agencies and organizations within the nation.

In-depth Assessment of Threats:

  • A05 conducts a detailed analysis of hacker groups’ techniques and strategies, from malware deployment to more sophisticated incursions like ransomware.
  • This portrait provides an overview of the level of danger and complexity of the current cybersecurity landscape.

Targets and Consequences:

  • A05 identifies the main targets of attacks, from government agencies to international businesses, with alarming consequences such as data loss and operational disruption.
  • This portrait serves not only as an analysis of cyber threats but also as a warning about the necessity of effective network protection measures.

Recommendations from the Cybersecurity Department

Therefore, the Association suggests that organizations and businesses conduct audits and evaluations of their systems and, in case of incidents, promptly inform relevant authorities such as the A05 Department – Ministry of Public Security and the Information Security Department – Ministry of Information and Communications. Additionally, the Association encourages organizations not to pay ransom to hackers to avoid setting a bad precedent.

Previously, on March 24, an international organization raided VNDirect Securities Company with data encryption, forcing them to suspend operations for several days. Subsequently, on April 2, Vietnam Oil Corporation PVOIL also announced that they had experienced a data encryption attack, causing their information technology system to temporarily shut down.

Conclusion

Strengthening cyber security is a big challenge for Vietnam in the context of an increasingly complex cyber environment. Action needs to be taken immediately to prevent and respond to these threats before they cause serious social and economic consequences. Follow Tinasoft to update the latest information.
